News and Information on Birding Sites Throughout Thailand and the Andaman

January is fast becoming the month for starlings in Thailand.

This year we’ve had reports of Common Starling in Khon Kaen and Petchaburi, Brahminy in Petchaburi and Spot winged in Kaeng Krachan. These are all by no means common migrants and getting a glimpse of one can only be described as a dream come true for many resident birders in the kingdom.

Mr. Peter Ericsson photographed this bird near Laem Pak Bia where it apparently was happily feasting from the abundance of mealworms placed there by photographers hoping to get their prized shot of the rare species. May I also remind the reader that it was Mr. Peter who was the first to find and report this bird (as well as a Common Starling) from this location ….

Many thanks for Mr. Peter for his permission to post this terrific photograph.

  1. Peter Ericsson says:

Nah, I wasn’t the first to find it but I was the first to post it on a Thai website and thus the ‘flood’ of local photographers coming through. I figured a nice bird like this deserves some attention!
