News and Information on Birding Sites Throughout Thailand and the Andaman

– From all of us at Phuketbirdwatching.com, we’d like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year 2014! – May it be your best one yet!

Reflecting on 2013, I’d say I was blessed to have enjoyed such a fruitful birding year. At the beginning of 2013 I made a goal to see 20 new birds in the year, and God honored my wish and threw in a few extras as well!

My 20 lifers were (in order of sightings): Malaysian Sand Plover, Malaysian Honeyguide, Crested Jay, Eurasian Wryneck, Red faced Liocichla,  Scarlet Finch, White Gorgetted Flycatcher, Humes Pheasant, Rusty cheeked Scimitar Babbler, Eyebrowed Laughingthrush, Spot breasted Laughingthrush, Large Cuckooshrike, Grey headed Parrotbill, Spot breasted Parrotbill, White bellied Redstart, Pin tailed Parrotfinch, Giant Nuthatch, Bamboo Woodpecker,  Glossy Swiftlet  and Striated Grassbird.  My first lifer for the year was spotted at Laem Pak Bia on the 2/1/13 while my 20th lifer was seen at Beung Borapet on the 8/11/13.

Extra lifers for 2013 included Grey Peacock Pheasant, Crested Kingfisher, Scaly breasted Partridge, Large billed Scimitar Babbler, Red legged Crake and Slaty legged Crake.

That makes it a grand total of 26 lifers for 2013! -God is good!

I’d also like to thank all the birders who visited Phuket in the past year and those I had the pleasure of meeting or going out with. I enjoyed the experiences and I do hope that we will be able to meet again in the future.

– Best of luck to everyone and may your New Year be blessed!
